A camp out on your backyard deck, who would have thought of that? Beat the back-to school blues by having your kids invite over a friend or two for a backyard slumber party. Pitch a tent out on your custom-built deck. You won’t even have to worry about using tent stakes!
Get a fire going in your fire pit to gather around for s’mores, ghost stories, and whatever else your imagination comes up with! Be sure to have plenty of extra blankets and flashlights.
Stay away from the TV and electronics for a good, old-fashioned night outside under the stars. See what constellations you can find in the September sky!
Play a nighttime game like, “Ghost in the Graveyard”. Introduce your kids to this ghostly game — it’s like tag with a spooky twist. Designate one ghost to hide in the backyard while everyone else waits on base (like the deck) and counts: “one o’clock, two o’clock…” When you get to 12 o’clock, shout “Midnight! I hope I don’t see a ghost tonight!” Then go hunting in the backyard for the ghost. Whoever spots the ghost first cries “Ghost in the graveyard!” Everyone then scrambles back to base while the ‘ghost’ tags runners. If you are tagged, you, too, join the ‘ghost’ gang, and the game begins again. Keep playing until the ghosts have caught everyone and the graveyard is full.
Don’t enforce a curfew, that is part of the fun!
